Subsidy for water and electricity in Oman reviewed

Muscat: A presentation on the government’s subsidy for electricity and water was organised by the Majlis Al Shura’s Secretariat General on Thursday in coordination with the
Oman Power and Water Procurement (OPWP).
The aim of the presentation was to acquaint members and staff of Majlis Al Shura of the services provided by the government in the areas of electricity, water and the extent of its contribution to the national economy.
This presentation comes within the framework of its association with the studies carried out by Majlis Al Shura’s committees in this area, which deals with all the economic and social dimensions and their impact on society.
The presentation was attended by Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Deputy Chairman of Majlis Al Shura, a number of Majlis Al Shura’s members, Sheikh Ali bin Nasser Al Mahrouqi, Majlis A’Shura’s Secretary-General, and some of the staff of the Secretariat General.
The presentation, which was made by Eng. Ahmed bin Saleh Al Jahdhami, CEO of OPWP, included a range of themes, including the increase in demand for electricity and water, future plans to meet that demand, in addition to the contribution of the private sector in this context, the total cost of supply, and the strategic projects and future challenges for the electricity and water sector in the Sultanate.
