Have made many friends in Oman, says Australian envoy

Muscat: Over 30 members and sponsors of the Australian Business Group Oman (ABGO) attended a reception at InterContinental Hotel to bid farewell to Australian Ambassador to Oman Dr. Ralph King.
“As patron of our business group, the Ambassador has been extremely supportive of our efforts to strengthen business ties between Oman and Australia,” a spokeswoman said. “With his encouragement, this week, we have signed an MoU with the Australian Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AACCI), whose goal is to expand two-way trade and strengthen economic and political cooperation between Australia and the Arab world.”
King said, “The Australian Business Group is very supportive of Australians doing business in Oman and this MoU has the potential to highlight to Australian companies the opportunities which exist in Oman.”
He also acknowledged the sponsors of the business group, which include Worley Parsons, Addleshaw Goddard and the Victorian Government Business Office, for their continuous support.
King has been a regular visitor to Oman over the past 13 years during three postings in the region. And he is determined this will not be his last visit. “I appreciate the kindness and generosity of the Omani people and have made many friends here,” he noted.
The Australian business community in Oman anticipates the MoU with AACCI will connect Australians with the business community in Oman, and assist in expanding Australian interests here.
AACCI President and National Chairman Roland Jabbour said, “We at AACCI are very pleased to welcome this MoU with the ABGO. We are looking forward to leveraging stronger business ties to serve the interests of both business communities and bringing the relationship and cooperation between our two countries to a higher level.”
“As two key trade organisations, we come together to enhance our foundations and develop new horizons in bilateral ties between Australia and the Sultanate. Australia’s trade to the GCC region continues to develop strongly and Oman is one of our important and valued partners,” he added.
