Muscat: The Education Council has held its second meeting this year under the chair of Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Education Council.
At the beginning of the meeting, a follow-up report was reviewed on the implementation of the decisions of the 2017 meetings of the Council and the implementation steps taken. The Council was briefed on the latest developments and stages of the Education Information and Indicators System project in the Sultanate of Oman.
The system also aims to provide statistical information to the relevant authorities from inside and outside the Sultanate.
The Council reviewed the report prepared on the programmes of teacher preparation and rehabilitation in accordance with the controls adopted in this regard.
Commended
The Council commended the efforts made during the past period by various bodies which contributed to the implementation of the standards and procedures approved by the Council and follow-up their implementation, as well as in the development of programmes for the preparation of teachers and the rehabilitation of educational outputs from institutions of higher education within the Sultanate as part of the Council’s keenness to improve the national cadres working in teaching.
The Council also discussed the proposal of conducting a forum for “The Role of the Waqf in Supporting and Financing Higher Education”, which was based on historical successes in the Sultanate, as well as regional and international experiences that enhance the importance of the Waqf in supporting the education process and finding alternatives to sustainable financing.
The Council moved forward in this direction and stressed the importance of reaching results and actionable measures and applying the rich experiences in this field to diversify sustainable sources of income for higher education institutions.
