Muscat: A total of 134 expat workers were arrested in the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar for fishing illegally, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries announced.
According to officials, the expats who were arrested during a surveillance campaign, were found working on fishing boats illegally.
In a statement online, officials from the ministry said, "The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in cooperation with the Ministry of Manpower and the Royal Oman Police carried out a control campaign in the states of the Central Governorate. The campaign resulted in the arrest of 134 workers working on fishing boats illegally."
The campaign, which is part of a series of surveillance campaigns carried out across the coast of the Sultanate, also included the Wilayat of Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands in Dhofar Governorate.
