In his book, “Words from the Media,” Khalid brings together a rich account of his long and multifaceted media journey.
As a young boy, he recalls sitting beside his father, who was fascinated by following emerging events through the BBC Arabic Service, Radio Kuwait, Radio Baghdad, and later Oman Radio. The broadcasters’ voices inspired him to nurture a dream of becoming like them one day.
Representing his school in “Think and Win” was a proud milestone that cemented his passion for the world of media.
Following his secondary education, Khalid travelled to Egypt to pursue his studies at Tanta University. However, destiny had something else in store for him. Therefore, he returned home and joined the Ministry of Education. It was there that he joined the production teams for “New Horizons” and “Towards a Better Life,” with the latter serving as his official gateway into television.
His career advanced when he moved to the Ministry of Information, expanding into a richer landscape spanning radio, television, and print journalism through columns in Oman and Al Shabiba newspapers. Khalid presented numerous radio programs, including “Friends’ Club,” “Good Morning,” “My Country,” “Live Broadcast,” and “This Morning,” eventually becoming Director of the Youth Programs Department.
His extensive television repertoire included “Thursday Meeting,” “The Open Forum,” “Morning Coffee,” “Ramsa,” “Huna Oman,” “In the Spotlight,” and “Words from Heritage.” Beyond the studio, he covered the Muscat Festival, Sultan Qaboos University graduations, and the Hajj mission. By taking his work across Oman and engaging directly with communities, he built an authentic connection with audiences, bringing the media closer to the people and earning their lasting love, appreciation, and respect.
Sharpening the Saw
Khalid remained committed to developing his knowledge, sharpening his skills, and expanding his capabilities, understanding that excellence in media requires continuous learning, curiosity, and a willingness to evolve. For him, every training opportunity was a chance to expand his skill set and a step toward mastering his craft.
Training in Damascus introduced him to new storytelling techniques designed to touch listeners’ hearts, while programs in Cairo refined his presentation, content development, and audio editing skills, continually enriching his perspective.
Specialised training at Al Jazeera in Qatar marked another milestone in his professional growth, enhancing his expertise in reporting, directing, and modern broadcasting technologies while offering deeper insights into modern media’s evolving influence.
His pursuit of learning eventually led him to Radio Monte Carlo in Paris in 2019 to study international content handling and balanced news presentation. For him, learning was never a destination, but a continuous journey of self-investment that ensured his passion met knowledge, experience met skill, and ambition met excellence.
A Journey of Continuous Learning
With undeterred commitment, he returned to the classroom in 1999 to earn a bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language from Beirut University’s Alexandria branch. His media career also opened doors to interviews with prominent figures across political, cultural, and artistic fields, each encounter broadening his perspective. Highlighted in his book, these memorable meetings alongside lifelong reading and real world experiences, reinforced his belief that true learning extends far beyond the classroom.
His saga of success brought widespread appreciation. H.E. Dr. Abdullah Al Harrasi, Minister of Information, described him as one of Oman’s prominent media personalities, highlighting his rich career, continuous development, and enduring sincerity and dedication.
Praises also came from journalist Sheikh Hamoud Al Siyabi, Dr. Abdulmunim Al Hasani (former Minister of Information), Ahmed Al Azki, Mohammed Al Rahbi, Saeed Musa and scores of others. All attested that media was never merely a profession for him, but a deep love and passion that inspired him to continuously refine his tools and personality.
His dedication earned him prestigious accolades, including the Order of Oman (Fourth Class), honours at the Gulf Radio and Television Festival, the 2014 Influential Media Personality Award in Government Communication, and the 2024 Icon Award, alongside numerous certificates of appreciation.
His Message to Young People
In “Words from the Media,” Khalid urges youth to prioritise credibility, ethics, and continuous learning while embracing modern technology. In the interactive media era, he stresses listening to audiences, viewing failure as growth, and driving positive change.
