Muscat: The fourth meeting of the Joint Committee between Sultan Qaboos University and the Ministry of Manpower was held yesterday, which reviewed training opportunities offered by the university through the Centre for Community Service and Continuing Education.
In the meeting, Dr Ali bin Saud Al Bemani, the Vice Chancellor of SQU, and Dr. Mona bint Salem Al Jardani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Manpower for Technical Education and Vocational Training were present.
The committee discussed the services provided by the Office of Deputy Vice Chancellor of Postgraduate Studies and Research, and how to take advantage of the development and rehabilitation programme keeping future needs in mind. The committee also discussed the possibility of exchanging experiences dealing with the quality of programmes and internal academic accreditation — Oman Academic Accreditation Committee — and external academic accreditation. The committee also reviewed the possibility of the ministry sharing with the university it’s experiences in engineering and agricultural fields, to contribute in forming specialised professional curricula.
Also discussed was the possibility of the participation of varsity members in special work teams to modernise and develop national professional standards in various disciplines, which had been by the Center of Standards and Professional Testing for the ministry, so that they could learn from their scientific experiences.
