Cricket: Oman defeat Titans in Pretoria practice match

Muscat: Oman’s preparations for ICC WCL Division Two competition got off to a perfect start in Pretoria when they thrashed a local side by 265 runs in a 50-over warm-up game.
Highlighting the form and fitness of their players, Oman handed Titans Academy a massive defeat.
Oman amassed 303 for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. Vaibhav Wategaonkar topscored with a fluent 74 off 68 while Swapnil Khadye scored 64 off 69. Zeeshan Maqsood (36 off 30), Ahmed Fayyaz Butt (31 not out off 20), Jatinder Singh (27 off 38) and Jay Odedara (23 not out off 15) were the other notable scorers.
For the local side, B. Carlisle bagged four for 23 and S. Patel claimed two for 67.
In reply, Titans were cruising at 61 without loss in 13 overs when Oman captain Sultan Ahmed decided to bring the spinners. Jay Odedara struck in his first over, removing opener A. Moller to break the 62-run opening partnership. Khawar Ali, operating from the other end, got rid of dangerous C. Benjamin, who ended up being the topscorer with 42 off 47. Unable to deal with Oman spinners, Titan lost track from thereon and were dismissed for 138 in the 42nd over. Jay went on to claim four wickets. Zeeshan Maqsood (3 for 15) and Khawar Ali (2 for 22) also bowled splendid spells.
Oman team are training in Pretoria before they fly to Namibia to take part in the ICC WCL Division Two from February 8.
