“We are excited to announce the arrival of Indian dancing sensation and choreographer Shakti Mohan to Muscat,” said Tejas Gupta, director and choreographer of Kings United Muscat.
Kings United has been India’s first ever team to compete in the World Hip Hop Dance Championship held in Las Vegas, United States in 2015, which was shown in the Bollywood blockbuster movie ABCD 2.
Kings United also performed at the Tribecca Film Festival 2011 held in Qatar and have performed at international events in Macau, America, Malaysia, Kenya, Dubai and Singapore. “Calling Shakti Mohan is our next major step, which we are doing under the Nritya Shakti World tour,” Gupta said.
A dancing sensation with a relentless passion to learn, Mohan trained in the Bharatnatyam dance form for eight years, before discovering her love for contemporary dance. Although many know her after she won dance reality show of India: “Dance India Dance” Season 2, Mohan is a also a judge for the Indian dance reality show: Dance Plus (broadcast by STAR Plus) and a celebrity performer at Jhalak Dikhlaja - Dancing with the Stars.
After her training in Mumbai and Vienna, she chose to learn more about contemporary and hip hop dance at the Broadway Dance Centre, New York. She conceptualised and launched her own dance calendar called Nritya Shakti in 2012 in the presence of her mentors Terence Lewis, Remo D Souza, Sandeep Soparkar and Ganesh Acharya.
“We are conducting a workshop at our academy in Darsait on November 10 and 11 and delighted to see response from places like Salalah, Sohar and Musannah. We are dedicated and determined to providing quality and innovative sessions under the supervision of Shakti herself, where people will have great exposure to international dance flavour. Shakti will be selecting top performers from Muscat and inviting them to her studio in India,” Gupta added.
