Cricket: Oman enter semis despite defeat to UAE in ACC U-19 Western Region tournament

Muscat: Oman suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ongoing ACC U-19 Western Region tournament in Malaysia on Saturday.
However, the Sultanate squad despite 101-run defeat to UAE qualified for the semifinals thanks to their thrilling five-wicket win over Bahrain in their Group A opening match on Thursday.
In Saturday’s match that was reduced to 33 overs-a-side, the UAE batted first and scored 149 for eight.
For the UAE, Johnathan Figy with 30 runs was the top-scorer.
For Oman, captain Wasim Ali claimed three wickets while Mohammed Mohsin took two.
In reply, Oman were bundled out for 48 in 22.3 overs. Vikram Nabira was Oman’s top scorer with 39 runs.
For the UAE, Rahul Neelesh claimed five wickets and Karthik Palaniappan bagged three.
In the semifinals to be played on Monday, Oman take on Kuwait and UAE play Qatar.
The winners of Tuesday’s final will qualify for the ACC Under-19 Youth Asia Cup, scheduled to be played from November 9 to 17.
