Consultative meeting on Oman's National Qualifications Framework held

Muscat: A two-day Consultative Symposium on “National Qualifications Framework”, organised by Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) started yesterday under the auspices of Dr. Said bin Hamad Al Rabeie, Secretary General of the Education Council.
The Symposium aimed at consulting with all Arab non English speaking stakeholders from the different education, military, professional and training sectors on the ‘1st draft of the National Qualifications Framework’, which was finalised by the Authority. The Syposium is also organised to get feedback of stakeholders on the first draft.
In a press statement, the Secretary General of Education Council said that the seminar comes within the framework of consultation about the National Qualifications Framework so that the benefit from such document is maximised.
He pointed out that the 1st draft will include the education system starting from school education till higher educating, as well as all types of qualifications either they are in the field of academic diploma, professional and technical qualifications.
He noted that the development of the National Qualifications Framework has been a recommendation of the National Education Strategy for the Sultanate 2040. The draft national framework for scientific qualifications includes a revision of the existing national framework, which was issued by the Accreditation Council in 2005.
The frameworks, which only cover the academic higher education qualifications, will be a comprehensive framework for the different types of qualifications.
When implemented, the fretwork is expected to fill the gaps identified in the various education sectors in the Sultanate and contribute to achieving relevant national aims.
It should be noted that the development of the National Qualifications Framework is one of the key functions of the Omani Academic Accreditation Authority as per the Royal Decree establishing it.
In 2014, the Education Council issued a decision approving the development of a National Qualifications Framework by the OAAA to include all types and stages of academic, professional and school education.
