Muscat Municipality achieves nearly 100 per cent success rate this year

Muscat: Municipal authorities in the Sultanate's capital area have revealed that they have been able to successfully deal with nearly all of the complaints they received in 2018.
According to a statement by Muscat Municipality, it received "18,350 reports during the period from the 1st of January to the 30th of September. Of these reports, 17,862 reports were handled and had their files closed, representing a success rate of 97.34 per cent.
"The inspection arm of service directorates, which works to raise the standard of services in Muscat, inspected 840 restaurants, and gave establishments with infractions a maximum duration of three months to improve their services and correct issues."
Another new development for Muscat Municipality is being close to equipping its inspectors with a mobile device, called Aljihaz al Kafi, that allows them to file fines directly onto a database in order to connect it to the Municipality’s permits and contracts systems.
The device, which has been tested on the field, operates along Administrative Order 55/2017 and includes fines for institutions working without a valid permit, expired permits, employee infractions, and health and safety infractions.
The municipality also inaugurated its smart phone app for requesting health inspections, which was "designed to accelerate the rate at which requests for municipal approval for commercial activities can be received before a renting contact and municipal permit can be issued".
This app also makes it easier to go through procedure for inspections for locations which require sanitary conditions, such as restaurants and beauty salons. The application also registers fines and infractions electronically, which sends them directly to the municipality’s database. In the IT department, the municipality also connected 6 external locations to its headquarters electronically.
