Oman tennis: Fatma Al Nabhani makes positive start in Thailand

Muscat: Omani star Fatma Al Nabhani made a sensational start to her campaign in the $15,000 ITF Women’s Pro Circuit tournament in Thailand on Monday winning both the singles and doubles first round matches.
In the singles competition, top seed Fatma accounted for American wild card Naomi Cheong for a straight sets 7-5, 7-5 victory.
In the second round, the Omani girl will take on local wild card Tamachan Momkoonthad, who advanced after defeating her compatriot Varunya Wongteanchai 6-4, 6-3.
In Monday’s doubles first round match, Fatma combined well with her Russian partner Angelina Gabueva to defeat Australia’s Masa Jovanovic and Russia’s Ksenia Laskutova 7-5, 6-4.
Third seeds Fatma and Angelina will square off against Thai duo of Natthapat Piwbangruk and Natcharee Teerachaodjiranon in the second round.
Nattapat and Natcharee moved up after a hard-fought 6-0, 3-6, 12-10 win over South Korea’s Yeong Won Jeong and China’s Yugi Sheng.
Fatma is taking part in the second of the back-to-back $15,000 Pro Circuit tournaments in Thailand. In the first tournament, Fatma’s challenge ended in the first round in both singles and doubles competitions.
