Former Malaysian prime minister to share his country's growth story at Sultan Qaboos University

Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), represented by Staff Development Centre, will host on Tuesday former Malaysian prime minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad for a lecture on "Strategic Planning: The Malaysian Experience". He will share his experience in the development of the country and its rapid growth.
Dr. Mahathir Mohammed is considered to be the father of the most prominent economic boom in Malaysia. His country has become an advanced industrial country. The industrial and service sectors contribute 90 per cent of the GDP.
In his time, manufacturing exports accounted for 85 per cent of total exports. It manufactured 80 per cent of the cars used in Malaysia.
It has become one of the most successful countries in South Asia, and even in the Islamic world as a whole. Dr. Mahathir focused on three themes in particular: education, industrialisation and the social theme.
SQU Staff Development Centre is working to host celebrities in various fields each year to present their experience in the development of the university community as these lectures target employees,
academics and students.
