Muscat: The Ministry of Finance on Sunday signed a Partnership for Development (Offset) programme agreement with Huawei.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Finance by Mahmoud Abdullah Al Owaini, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Partnership for Development Program. It was signed on behalf of Huawei by David Shi, CEO of Huawei Oman.

The agreement includes the implementation of three main projects. The first project aims to train 5,000 beneficiaries, including students, graduates, and employees, over five years in the field of Information and Communication Technology. The second project involves establishing six innovation labs in cooperation with a number of Omani higher education institutions to support research, development, and encourage innovation.

The third project aims to provide 100 specialised training opportunities annually for two years, totaling 200 trainees, to prepare and qualify Omani youth in the fields of 5G technologies, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing according to the latest global practices.

The Partnership for Development (Offset) Program at the Ministry of Finance aims to transfer modern technology from committed companies and build national capacities and competencies across all sectors. This is achieved through knowledge transfer and best practices established by the partnership relationships that the Ministry of Finance maintains with leading institutions and companies worldwide.
