Muscat: Talented Omani player Samar Al Bakri captured the girls under-18 singles crown at the ISC/Muscat Pharmacy Open Junior Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC) Oman.
Samar powered her way to a brilliant 6-1, 6-3 victory over Maryam Al Balushi in the final and avenged her defeat to Maryam at last year’s ISC Open.
Maryam was spot on from the word go while one felt that Maryam was not at her best.
Samar showed consistency in her ground strokes and broke Maryam in the very first game and dictated terms to win the first set comfortably.
Maryam settled down into her groove in the second set and in spite of breaking Samar twice, Samar was unstoppable and played aggressive tennis to claim the girls under-18 singles crown.
Ibra-based Vivek Kolluru justified the long journeys he made with his parents with victory to capture the boys under-12 title.
In the final, the top seeded southpaw reigned supreme to defeat J. Siddhant with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 verdict.
It was a slow start by Vivek who had trouble with his serves. Once he had settled, Vivek showed fluency in his ground strokes and denied Siddhant any liberties on the way to an emphatic victory for the boys under-12 title.
