Oman crime: ​18 arrested in drug smuggling rackets

Muscat: Seven drug smuggling operations were foiled in Dhofar waters, the ROP announced on Tuesday.

The Coast Guard Police and the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department, led by Dhofar Governorate police, have recently foiled seven drug smuggling operations in Omani territorial waters around Salalah airport.

18 people were arrested in connection with the operations, all of Arab and Asian nationalities.

The arrests resulted in the seizure of large quantities of various drugs, including Qat and other psychotropic substances.

The ROP called on people to cooperate more and to inform the police of any knowledge of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, by contacting the hotline (1444) or by telephone Emergency (9999).
