South Africa, Oman business heads discuss ways to boost trade ties

Muscat: There is huge business opportunity for Omani businessmen in South Africa, the ambassador of the Republic of South Africa Oman said.
He was speaking at a meeting of the Omani-South African Friendship Association organised by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) yesterday.
The meeting coincided with the visit of a South African business delegation to Oman with the objective of exploring means of enhancing trade and investment relations between the two countries.
Abul Azeem bin Abbas Al Bahrani, Director General of OCCI said that the Sultanate has made great achievements on the socioeconomic levels. This is very clear in the GDP index, which increased more than 300 times to stay at about OMR31 billion in 2014, OMR27 billion in 2015 as per the statistics of National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
He pointed out that with regard to partnerships and business relations between the two countries, available statistics show that the value of the total imports from South Africa stood at OMR15 million in 2015 compared to exports wroth of OMR129 million, including OMR13 million Omani origin products and OMR116 million re-exported materials.
On his part, the ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to the Sultanate said that the visit will contribute to enhancing partnership and cooperation relations and starting joint ventures. He affirmed that South Africa is a huge market that is abundant with business opportunities for potential businessmen and investors.
