Muscat: As part of its continuous efforts to keep the public informed of the latest technologies utilised by the company, Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) recently participated in COMEX 2017; which opened its doors at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on March 28 and will run through to March 30. Visitors to the OAMC stand were also provided with a virtual tour of the new Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport.
The exhibition, now in its 27th year, was launched under the auspices of Sheikh Al Fadhil bin Mohammed Al Harthy, secretary-general of the Council of Ministers. The chief guest also launched OAMC’s latest virtual reality applications at the company’s stand in the presence Their Highnesses and Excellences and the CEO of OAMC. This year marks the first ever participation of the company at COMEX.
These applications, which adds to the growing number of achievements of the company, incorporate the latest technologies, used for the first time at any airport regionally. It also reiterates the company’s efforts to further enhance its communication with the public.
Commenting on the importance of this participation, Dr. Moamen bin Mohammed Al Busaidi, general manager of ITC at OAMC noted, “COMEX 2017 is one of the most prominent ITC events in Oman. Participating in such exhibition for the first time, is of great importance to us, providing an avenue through which we can directly communicate with the public and highlight the latest technologies incorporated by the company in its day-to-day activities and projects. At COMEX 2017, the company will provide visitors the opportunity to view the main facilities of the new Muscat International Airport, through a 3D virtual reality technique which is the first of its kind in Oman. The application was designed over the course of two years where the technology team, specialising in digital design, produced a number of 2D and 3D interactive renders with the aim of supporting the company’s efforts to highlight the new airport.”
The virtual reality applications enable the user to explore the new Muscat International and Salalah Airports in addition to obtaining information about the facilities and services each provides. Available for iOS and Android devices, these applications will contribute towards promoting Oman airports both regionally and internationally.
“The launch of these new applications supports the operational readiness experience which will start soon at the new Muscat International Airport. Additionally, citizens will be updated with information on the new airport, allowing them to explore the facilities available first hand. The quality of the construction and architecture of the airport, which is one of the key aspects of Oman’s logistic strategy, clearly reflects the growing prominence of Oman both regionally and globally,” added Moamen Al Busaidi added.
COMEX 2017 focuses on ‘digital life’ transformation in business and personal life. The exhibition, through the ‘smart talks’ forum, provides a platform for local and regional companies to exchange ideas and solutions in interactive sessions. COMEX sees great participation inside and outside Oman, and aims to provide pioneering technical solutions designed to consolidate the spirit of cooperation between the participants and create interactions among the companies or between the companies and consumers through three main sections; Business, E-Oman and Shoppers.
