Muscat: Oman is set to become a focal point for international hockey as it hosts three tournaments on the sidelines of the FIH (International Hockey Federation) Congress from November 7-9.
Organised by Hockey Oman (Oman Hockey Association) and the United Thalassery Sports Club (UTSC), the Hockey Oman International Women’s Tournament, the 8th Gulf Cup Hockey Fiesta, and the Oman Inter-School Hockey Tournament will welcome teams from across the Gulf, Asia, and Africa and will coincide with the hosting of the prestigious FIH Congress from November 6-9.
The tournaments will unfold at the Hockey Oman arena in Amerat and other key venues.
Hockey Oman International Women’s Tournament will feature eight international women’s teams from India and Egypt competing for regional dominance while the 8th Gulf Cup Hockey Fiesta, an Asian Hockey Federation-sanctioned event, will also witness eight teams, including those from India, the UAE, Egypt, and Oman. The Oman Inter-School Hockey Tournament will bring together Indian and Omani schools to promote youth engagement in competitive hockey.
The tournaments will be held on the sidelines of the FIH Congress, expected to bring 400 delegates from 140 countries to Oman, marking an unprecedented opportunity to showcase Oman’s sporting facilities and cultural vibrancy to a global audience.
The delegates are also expected to attend the events, according to a press release from the organisers.
