Muscat: Oman's eCensus2020 began on Sunday and officials are visiting private sector institutions to collect the data required.
The programme aims to update and complete the data needed to link addresses of enterprises and employees to electricity account numbers. This includes linking the addresses of establishments and the employees with their electricity account number, and to link workers data with the address of their workplaces and accommodations as well. In addition to linking addresses of the expatriate families with their electricity accounts numbers in order to prove their geographical locations.
The launch of this programme confirms the importance of identifying the geographical distribution of population, housing and establishments for setting national plans and strategies that serve the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
Linking the electricity account numbers to the population, housing and establishments’ database will also serve the mechanisms of the new addressing system, the mechanisms of documenting the rental contracts, and will help in organising the collective housing of the expatriate workforce as well as enhancing the planning process for providing basic public services and facilities such as hospitals, schools, and other components of the infrastructure.
In conducting the Electronic Census 2020 project, the Sultanate has chosen to use electricity account information as a tool to prove the individuals’ and establishments’ address, due to its accuracy and coverage of all residential and non-residential units. The project management also urges all citizens, residents and business owners to update their data with related authorities in the Sultanate.
