State Council submits VAT draft law to His Majesty

Muscat: The State Council forwarded to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the draft of value-added tax law (VAT) referred by the Council of Ministers as a matter of urgency, with the opinion of the two Councils. This was done following extensive discussions and approval of the joint committee report between the State Council and Majlis Al Shura that studied the review of the observations received concerning the draft law.
This came during the eleventh ordinary sitting of the first annual session of the seventh term of the State Council, headed by Dr.Badria Ibrahim Khalfan Al Shihi,Vice Chairperson, in the presence of the Council members and Khalid bin Ahmed Al-Saadi, Secretary-General of the Council, along with the participating Councilmembers via video conferencing.
The Vice Chairperson in her opening speech valued the royal decrees issued by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, on reorganising and restructuring the state’s administrative apparatus, to provide it with competent work force having expertise in various fields, to consolidate the principles of State Institutions, and lead to the fortification of the future vision of Oman 2040.
Dr.Badria Ibrahim Khalfan Al Shihi, congratulated Sheikh Abdul Malik Bin Abdullah Al Khalili for being the recipient of the Royal confidence of His Majesty and his appointment as State Council Chairman and.Khalid bin Ahmed Al-Saadi on his appointment by His Majesty as the Secretary General of the Council, and prayed for the success of their endeavours and guidance to be on the right path.
The Council’s Vice Chairperson extended on behalf of the Council deepest gratitude to Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al-Manthri, the former State Council Chairman and to.Dr.Khaled bin Salem Al Saidi, the former Secretary-General of the Council for their sincere efforts exerted during their tenure at the Council, and prayed to God Almighty for their success and long life.
Following this, Dr. Badria reviewed the agenda of the sitting, and said that the Council will devote the sitting to discussing the recommendations of the joint committee between the State Council and Majlis regarding the articles subject to the discrepancy between the two Councils on the draft of value-added tax law(VAT) referred by the Council of Ministers. She indicated that Majlis had discussed the opinion of the joint committee and agreed to its recommendations at its thirteenth Regular Session, held at the beginning of this month.
She explained that the high orders of His Majesty the Sultan had postponed the dissolution of the current session until the Council of Oman concludes its decision on the draft law.
Further Dr.Badria added that with the approval by the Council of the recommendations of the Joint Committee, the Council would end its work for the first annual session of the seventh period.
The approval of the report of the joint committee on the draft law came after extensive discussions by the honorable Council members with the introduction of members’ observationsprior to submission to His Majesty.
In addition, the Council approved the minutes of the tenth ordinary sitting of the first annual session of the seventh term, and viewed the General Secretariat report on the activities of the Council between the session between the previous session and this session.
