E-gates in Muscat International Airport to be closed for time being

Muscat: Passengers travelling from Muscat International Airport, once it reopens, will not be able to use the e-gates there, as they have been temporarily closed during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, no commercial passenger flights are allowed to take off and land at airports in Oman, but plans have been drawn up for them to resume regular operations, with many additional safety checks in place to stop the spread of infection.

“Physical barriers have been installed at all immigration counters to minimize face-to-face interaction,” said an advisory from Oman Airports, the organisation managing the running of the country’s airports. “All immigration staff will be wearing gloves and masks at all times, and all trays will be subjected to the disinfection process after each passenger use.”

“Sanitizers will be available for immigration staff & passengers at all immigration counters,” they added. “E-gates are closed for time being.”

Passengers will be asked to remove their masks for identification process while ensuring that physical distancing are met, and appropriate signage should be deployed that clearly inform people about subsequent steps of the process.

“Scanners’ reader surface should be disinfected with the same frequency as for any other high-touch surface,” said Oman Airports. “Ground stickers & tensile barriers will ensure the physical distancing among passengers.”
