Muscat: The role of charity organisations and voluntary teams during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has been lauded by Maryam bint Issa Al Zadjali, the Chairperson of Dar Al Atta’a Association.
"Let's assume, amidst the current COVID-19 pandemic, that charity organisations or voluntary teams no longer exist. It seems something that triggers panic," she said highlighting their role.
"During the holy month of Ramadan, Dar Al Atta'a received over 15, 000 requests for support and OMR107,000 has been distributed to support 4,591 families with only 30 employees and volunteers doing the task. This work is carried by soldiers on the ground who have worked relentlessly and with full dedication amid exceptional conditions to offer support to the needy persons and families."
Expressing her appreciation for their efforts she said: "Hats off to all charity organisations and voluntary teams which worked hand in hand with the government sector and the private sector.
"The civil charity organisations and voluntary teams have worked to ensure the support reach the categories entitled to receive it and to ensure that it has not been randomly given. The decisions the charity organisations and teams have taken were timely in terms of offering cash support such as in payment of outstanding rents, loans, treatment expenses and other aspects of support. The charity organisations have reached the needy individuals and families through the networks of such organisations.
"The private sector companies offer services and donations through the channels of the charity organisations. Nama electricity company has cooperated in payment of the electricity bills for the families affected by COVID-19 pandemic. Restaurants have offered meals and several companies have offered commodities and food parcels and other items. Civil charity organisations have worked to provide opportunities for volunteers to work and participate. They have also worked to attract and welcome charity initiatives such as Al Sa'ei Initiative for delivery of medicine to patients at home from the hospital in cooperation with Oman Post besides the Shifa Initiative for providing medicines to expatriates suffering from chronic diseases."
She described work of the charity organisations as a "value added to the society to mitigate the severity of the crisis."
"Without the support extended by Oman Charitable Organisation, the other charity organisations and voluntary teams to families, mainly in the Wilayat of Muttrah, the crisis could have escalated," she pointed out.
"The charity organisations are the pulse of the society and spread love, solidarity and cooperation among the sectors of the society, regardless of the ethnicity, gender or religion. We support all who live in Oman, the land of love and security," she added.
"In cooperation with the National Technology Fund (NTF) and WEBWARE LLC for IT solutions, Dar Al Atta'a has launched Tarabut Gateway (platform), which is a platform linking together all charity organisations and aimed to regulate applications for support," she said.
The Chairperson of Dar Al Atta’a Association concluded by extending her thanks and appreciation to all personnel of Dar Al Atta'a Association for their hard work and dedicated efforts in performing their duties.
She also extended thanks to all partners of Dar Al Atta'a including Oman Charitable Oraganisation, Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood, Oman Bahja Society for Orphans, Eshrakat Amal Team, Together We Build Team, Nida Al Khair Team, Al Amirat Charity Team, Muttrah Charity Team and Al Watan Team among other teams.
