7,000 register with Dar Al Atta’a for help

Muscat: Around 7,000 applicants have registered with Dar Al Atta’a Association for help in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Oman.
The Association saw a surge in needy people this year compared to the same period last year due to the ongoing pandemic.
Talking exclusively to the Times of Oman, Dr. Shamsa Al Harthi, General Director at Dar Al Atta’a said that they have received 7,000 applications in just a month and a half.
“We started to receive these applications from both citizens and residents living across the Sultanate since the implementation of safety measures started to begin in the country.
“This is definitely a huge number of applicants we have received compared to the last year as previously majority were just Omani citizens seeking help due to bankruptcy and other general issues, however, this year we have registration of expats as well who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 and need assistance to support their families,” Al Harthi said.
She added that due to this influx, the online application to register at the Association has been temporarily closed and will resume after Eid.
Al Harthi pointed out that they are in dire need of volunteers who could reach out to people across the Sultanate as well as more contribution from the society since the number of COVID-19 cases are increasing on a daily basis.
