Muscat: City-based actors, Geethu Ajay and Sunil Guruvayurappan recently bagged three awards in the recently held World Online Solo Drama competition.
They bagged the awards for the best actor, second best actress and third best drama.
The results were announced online on the organisers’ social media pages, yesterday by noted
award winning Indian writer, M. Mukundan.
The novel concept of online solo drama competition was introduced by Loka Nataka Vartha, a group of serious drama lovers from world over. The competition was open to participants of all ages, languages and countries and the entries were to be submitted before 10th April 2020. Participants were asked to send an unedited video
of their solo performance not exceeding 5 minutes to the organisers. The theme being “We will overcome this dark period”.
The competition registered 300 entries from all over the world, of which 186 which met the competition Criteria and were premiered on their Facebook page over a period of 5 days. There were 8 entries from Muscat and all including Sunil Guruvayurappan’s “The last war” directed by Sunil himself and Geethu Ajay’s “Nyan Oru Pennu” scripted and directed by Ajay Raj, where premiered.
Sunil’s and Geethu’s respective drama were included in the 24 top dramas for the finals, based on voting by well known theatre personalities on the Loka Nataka Vartha WhatsApp group.
The 24 shortlisted dramas where then submitted to the jury panel lead by Priyanandan, National
award winning director and a prominent figure in theatre and Malayalam feature film industry. Other jury members were Prof. Chandradasan, Dr. Samkutty Pattomkari, Sreeja Arangottukara, Rafeeq Mangalaseri and Naresh Kovil (LNV –GCCC representative).
Various stalwarts of theatre and film industry took to Facebook to congratulate the duo on their
achievement. The awards will be distributed after the current situation caused by the pandemic world over subsides. Sunil Guruvayurappan is a Sales professional, and an established actor and drama director
while Geethu Ajay is a lecturer, passionate classical dancer, Ex Radio Jockey and well known
theatre and short films actor in Muscat. She has also been a TV show host and a stage anchor.
