Muscat: As many as 28 detainees were released in Al-Dhahirah Governorate after a donor contribution as part of the "Fak Kurba" initiative.
The initiative said in a statement: "A donor who refused to reveal himself for the fourth year in a row takes care of all the cases mentioned in the initiative in Al-Dhahirah Governorate. The files were closed today and the 28 detainees were released."
The campaign, Fak Kurba - which is Arabic for redeeming anguish - was launched by the Oman Lawyers Association (OLA) in 2012. Since then the campaign has helped free more than 1,000 prisoners around the Sultanate.
Fak Kurba initiative cases involve citizens and residents of different nationalities. Where the amounts paid to released persons ranged from OMR 100 to a maximum of OMR 2,000.
