Ports in Oman handle 200 weekly trips for import and export

Muscat: Omani ports, by virtue of being directly linked to 86 commercial ports in more than 40 countries, see 200 direct weekly trips for direct export and import from various regional and international ports. Items shipped include goods, foodstuffs, vegetables, fruits and meat.

This helps to enhance direct export and import from different countries of the world for goods, especially vegetables, fruits and meat. It also provides the best options for merchants and importers to import from the country of production and to benefit from direct international shipping lines to the Sultanate from various Gulf, regional and international ports.

Discussing the same, Director of Global Markets and Business Development at Asyad Group said: "Direct importers’ experiences through the Sultanate’s ports were crowned with success in reducing the time and effort that imported shipments take through other ports. There is wide satisfaction from customers and this is a tribute to the high levels of readiness in the ports and customs clearance systems that contribute to clearance of 90 per cent of the goods within the first hour of their arrival at the port, and clearance of 20 percent of the goods while they are on board the ship in the middle of the sea."

Asyad recently announced that it is ready to meet all the needs of merchants and importers for direct export and import with various regional and international ports to ship goods, foodstuffs, vegetables, fruits and meat at competitive prices, in coordination and cooperation with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In addition the group also announced the launch of a package of incentives and concessions for importers including the reduction of handling, shipping and unloading fees and the extension of the free storage period in Omani ports for goods destined for local markets.
