However, according to the Minister some people who were placed in institutional quarantined in hotels didn’t follow the rules.

“Some of the people who were placed in institutional quarantine in hotels didn’t follow the rules. They were instead moving from one room to another. For this reason, we will add more security to the hotels, and there will be very harsh legal procedures to those who don’t follow the guidelines for domestic quarantine,” he said.

The minister called on everyone who had high temperature, cough and sneezing to maintain personal isolation, and asked those who were quarantined at home to observe the rules they’d been asked to follow.

The minister added that the first COVID-19 patient to be placed in intensive care had recovered. He asked everyone to remain patient and continue practicing social distancing for the next three or four weeks.

Regarding implementing curfew in Oman, the minister said: “If the Supreme Committee deems it necessary to apply a curfew, which is the last resort for us, it will be announced in due course. However, at present, we prefer people staying at home.”

Al Saeedi was speaking to Shabiba FM, the radio channel of Times of Oman’s sister publication, Al Shabiba.
