Consumer watchdog in Oman claws back cash

Rustaq: Consumer watchdogs in Al Rustaq clawed back more than OMR1700 after two complaints were lodged.

A consumer filed a complaint about a manpower services company’s failure to fulfill its duties based on the contract signed by the two parties.

The housemaid that the consumer hired did not do her duty and was returned to the office where the consumer asked for another maid or a reimbursement of the money paid. The company refused, according to the complainant.

The Department of Consumer Protection in South Al Batinah investigated the issue and was able to retrieve OMR 1312 and rendered the contract void.

A second consumer filed a complaint against a tailoring establishment for failing to adhere to what was agreed upon.

The consumer asked the establishment to tailor a set of curtains, but the establishment did not fulfill the requirements which pushed him to file the complaint.

The consumer protection department investigated the issue and by mutual agreement a sum of OMR 370 was returned to the consumer.
