Children's Day of Cancer observed in Oman

Muscat: The Sultanate observed Children's Day of Cancer on Saturday.

A statement issued online by the the Ministry of Health said, “The main symptoms of leukemia in children include bruising, bleeding, weight loss, and weakened immunity.”

There are two types of leukemia in children which are acute leukemia and chronic leukemia.

The most important nutrients that a child with cancer needs are protein, which is found in meat and legumes which help to grow and rebuild tissues, and maintain healthy skin, blood cells and the immune system.

Also the child needs carbohydrates, as it is a major source of energy needed by the body, represents by vegetables and fruits which are the most prominent sources.

As the child loses large amounts of fluids due to vomiting and diarrhea caused by chemotherapy, it is necessary to drink sufficient water.

The World Children's Day of Cancer is observed on February 15 every year.
