Equestrian: Horse racing season begins in Oman

MUSCAT: The new horse racing season organized by the Royal Horse Racing Club was launched on Wednesday at the Al Rahba racecourse in Barka under the auspices of Brigadier General Abdulrazak Abdulqader Alshahwarzi, commander of Royal Cavalry.
Abbas bin Abdullah Al Bahrani, head of financial affairs of Royal Court Affairs presided over the first day of racing.
During the press conference, Commander Alshahwarzi said, “that the season will include 20 race days, three of them classic race days, the first will be the National Day Cup to be held in November, Oman Derby Cup in January 2019 and the final race day on April 6, 2019”.
“Horse racing has witnessed a huge development according to international horse experts. Racing has drawn attention to the purchase of the best race horses and using them for racing as well as for breeding.” “This encourages buying and selling of horses in Oman and to motivate citizens to participate in international events and to achieve good results, he added”.
