68% of all disease-related deaths due to lifestyle: WHO

Muscat: 68% of all disease-related deaths in Oman occur due to poor habits and lifestyle, according to the World Health Organisation.

According to the WHO's latest country report, while communicable diseases and maternal, pre-natal and nutritional conditions amount to 17% of all deaths, and deaths due to injuries account for another 15%, people who suffer death from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardivascular problems, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes accounted for the other 68%.

The report also added that the chances of residents in Oman dying from the four non-communicable diseases listed about was about 18%.

According to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information in Oman, 5,839 deaths took place last year, up from 5,809 in 2015.
