Muscat: The braking distance for vehicles reaches 50 meters or more when travelling on slippery roads.
According to Royal Oman Police (ROP) Traffic, “Driving during rain is fraught with many risks due to slippery roads, which threaten the safety and security of those traveling and raises the risk of accidents.”
“Slippery roads cause an increase in the braking distance, while the usual distance when driving at a speed of 80 km per hour on dry roads is about 31 meters, the braking distance on slippery roads reaches 50 meters or more,” ROP added.
ROP recommended driving at a speed of no more than 50 km per hour if the visibility range is less than 50 meters.
