Travel Oman: Dibba Al-Baya, perfect place for nature lovers

If you’re looking to get away from Muscat and embark on an epic adventure, then the Musandam peninsula and the town of Dibba might be the place for you. Located more than 450 km from Muscat, the Musandam Governorate is an Omani exclave that lies to the north of the United Arab Emirates. Its craggy mountain peaks, stunning landscapes, crystal clear waters and rich undersea wildlife make it a year-round destination for nature lovers and eco-tourists.
“The small town of Dibba is home to some of the nicest hotels and beaches in Musandam, providing a relaxing getaway from the city,” said Oman’s Ministry of Tourism. “Dibba Al-Baya is a small border town in the south eastern corner of Oman’s Musandam Peninsula exclave. About 5,000 people live in this Omani town.

“The exclave of Musandam is Oman’s northernmost governorate, separated from the rest of Oman by the UAE and home to some of the Sultanate’s most dramatic landscape,” added the ministry. “Here, 2000m high mountains meet the sea with stunning fjords and crystal-clear waters making this area one of the best diving and snorkelling spots in the world.”
Travelling to Dibba can either be done through sea, courtesy National Ferries, and on land, through the UAE, though you will require a visa to pass through the border. Make sure you know your route before leaving. Do have enough money in your phone to access Google Maps, and keep a physical printout with you, as an alternative.
Make sure your car is fuelled up and give it a proper service check. There will be swathes of land where there is little access to the outside world. Fuel stations will be found outside most towns, and if you are in the UAE, gas station attendants will accept both Omani Rials and UAE Dirhams.
