Muscat: Bausher Club sprung a surprise on Saturday by stunning former champions Al Nasr Club 4-3 on Saturday to set up a summit clash with Seeb Club in the 2016 His Majesty’s Cup Hockey Championship at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.
The final of the championship will be played on December 19 at 7pm, while the third-place playoff between Ahli-Sidab and Al Nasr will be worked off on Sunday evening. The final will be presided over by Minister of Higher Education Dr Rawiya bint Saud Al Busaidi, while also to be present are top dignitaries from the Ministry of Sports Affairs and other sports bodies.
Bausher Club, boosted by some talented Pakistani players, played their hearts out to win the spot in the final. Earlier, Mohammed Tauseeq Arshad (36th minute and 51st minute) scored a brace to help Bausher edge out Al Nasr 4-3.
The other goal scorers for Bausher were Ali Ahmed Al Hosni (41st) and Ammad Aiyad Al Hosni (58th).
In fact, it was Al Nasr who took the lead through Mohammed Aleem Bilal (15th minute) and added one more through Rashid Jameel Al Hosni (23 minute). Mohammed Aleem scored another goal in the 44th minute, but Al Nasr could not add on thereafter.
Meanwhile, the second final between Ahli-Sidab and Seeb was keenly contested with the match finally being decided by shootout. Seeb matched Ahli-Sidab’s brilliance as at full-time the score read 2-2 with Rupinder Pal Singh scoring both the goals for the defending champions. Seeb, though equalised at crucial periods through Mohammed Hassan Al Lawati and Qassim Moosa. respectively.
However, in the resultant shootout, Seeb got the better off Ahli-Sidab 3-2, forcing the defending champions to fight for the third spot on Sunday.
Tayyab arrives
Meanwhile, International Hockey Federation (FIH) member and CEO of Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Tayyab Ikram arrived on Saturday evening to attend the finale of HM’s Cup Championship.
He was received by the Oman Hockey Association chairman Talib Khamis Al Wahaibi and the two discussed various issues related to Oman hockey. Though Tayyab Ikram has visited Oman many-a-time this visit has come after the new board under Talib Al Wahaibi took over.
