Muscat: The Sultanate yesterday marked the Armed Forces Day, which falls on the 11th of December every year.
Several celebrations were held to mark this glorious occasion and recognise the developments made by the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF), as well as their national duties and roles.
In Governorate of Muscat, various formations of SAF staged several performances at the Shooting Ranges of the SAF Training Battalion.
The performances reflected the upgrading and modernisation made by SAF in terms of training, rehabilitation and armament, thanks to the Royal care accorded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al Hinai, Advisor of State who pinned long service and good conduct medals on some
SAF personnel in recognition of their sincere efforts and dedication in carrying out their sacred national duty.
SAF Music Band staged music performances. The chief guest and the attendees viewed shows performed by male and female horse riders of SAF Sultan of Oman Armours. The event included a
parade for vehicles and equipment used by SAF.
On this occasion, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Hinai, Advisor of State said in a statement, “It is a great event to mark this glorious Armed Forces Day, which falls on 11th December each year. The day has been dedicated by His Majesty the Sultan to recognise this prestigious military establishment and its personnel for the great role they play in promoting peace, security and prosperity in our dear country. It is also an opportunity to remember its great history, which is full of victories and achievements”.
The ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, SAF Chief of Staff, commanders of the SAF Crops, and other military and security services, honourable members of State Council, officials, senior officers at SAF, the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO), Royal Oman Police (ROP) and other security services, commanders and senior retired officers, commissioned, non-commissioned officers and personnel at RAO, college and school students and scouts in Governorate of Muscat.
