Strict fines in Oman for barbecues in non-designated spots

Muscat: The Muscat Municipality has reminded people about rules in place to govern the throwing of waste at tourist spots and has clarified that barbecues would be allowed only at designated places. The statement comes during the holidays for the 49th National Day, which started on Wednesday and will end on Saturday 30 November.

Those who break these rules and are found throwing waste or barbecuing in non-designated areas, will have to pay a fine of OMR 100. At many spots, boards announcing the same have been placed. In case of repeat offenders, the fine will be doubled.

The rules on barbecuing were announced in January this year to prevent fire hazards to gardens, parks and public places. In addition to the fine, the violators will also have to clean up the spot.
