North Al Sharqiyah sees highest number of Glaucoma cases in Oman

Muscat: Glaucoma is a rise in intraocular pressure which may lead to damage to the optic nerve and the loss of vision gradually.

According to the National Center for Statistics and Information, (NCSI), the Sultanate registered 5,076 cases of people suffering from Glaucoma in 2018. "The largest number of people with Glaucoma are in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate with 1,637 cases,” a statement by the NCSI said.

Glaucoma, is also called blue water although the origin of the name is unclear. In Greek Glau Coma translates loosely in English to 'blue water'.
