More than 700 expats violating labour law arrested in Oman

Muscat: Authorities arrested 701 expatriates for violating Oman's labour laws last week.

Of the arrested, 612 were commercial workers, 50 agricultural and 39 domestic workers, the Ministry for Manpower said.

They were arrested during the period between 23 and 29 October.

The ministry explained that 263 of the arrested were absconding and 410 were sacked.

Most of the labourers were arrested in Muscat with 397, followed by North Al Batinah with 109.

Meanwhile, the manpower ministry said that it deported 315 illegal labourers.
