Oman's population crosses 4.5m mark

Muscat: Oman’s population crossed 4.5 million by mid -September 2016, registering a growth of 62.2 per cent against the 2010 population of 2. 7 million.
The increase has been due to the economic growth witnessed in the Sultanate, the increase in the number of projects and the construction activities which attracted a large number of expatriate manpower.
The population amounted to 4,500,290 until September 15. The number of Omanis amounted to 2,443, 590 representing 54. 3 per cent of the total population while the number of expatriates amounted to 2,056,700 (45.7 per cent of the total population).
During the current year the total population registered a growth of 4.2 per cent, an increase of 183,000 ( 55, 000 Omanis and 128, 000 expatriates).
Muscat Governorate accommodates 31.2 per cent of the total population followed by North Al Batinah Governorate 16.3 per cent and Al Dakhiliyah Governorate 9.9 per cent.
