Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the number of release certificates issued for mechanical, metal, electrical, chemical, building materials, food and agricultural products and commodities in Muscat, Sohar and Dhofar, during the first quarter (Q1) of 2019 was 19,194. This is an increase of 97.06% over 9,740 release certificates issued during the same period in 2018.

The statistics department of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the number of release certificates for passenger cars/tyres of passenger cars reached 1,953 in the first quarter of the year 2019, which is an increase of 95.1% over 1,001 certificates issued in the same period of last year.

The number of certificates issued for lead-acid batteries for cars increased to 410 in the first quarter of this year compared with 144 certificates in the first quarter of 2018. This was due to the movement in the market. Similarly, there was an increase of 43.1% in the number of release certificates issued for cosmetic items in the first quarter of this year over the same period last year. This was also seen as a result of the expansion in cosmetic activities and an increase in the manufacturing and production of cosmetics for the purpose of export. The number of certificates issued for Portland cement and rebar reached 12,549 in the first quarter of this year compared with 5,489 of the same period of 2018. This growth is seen because of the beginning of the work according to the ministerial decision regarding standard specifications for rebar or reinforcing steel since the last quarter of 2017.

This decision has led to an increase in the number of shipments of reinforcing steel. The number of release certificates for low voltage electrical equipment and equipment reached 127 during the first quarter of this year compared with 89 certificates issued during the same period in 2018. There were 670 release certificates issued for motor oil lubricants in the first quarter this year which is a 53.0% increase over 438 certificates issued in the same period last year.

Similarly, there were 559 release certificates issued for the children’s toys in the first quarter of this year which is also a significant increase over 492 certificates issued during the same period last year.

The ministry also said that the number of release certificates for safety shoes during the first quarter of this year reached 18 certificates.
