
The General Assembly of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held its ordinary meeting on Sunday morning at Kempinski Hotel Muscat, chaired by His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, OOC Chairman, in the presence of members of the Board of Directors, members of the General Assembly, and a representative from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.
His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, OOC President, affirmed in his speech during the meeting that 2025 represented an important transitional milestone in the Committee’s journey, as it witnessed the election of the current Board of Directors. He noted that the General Assembly meeting was convened to approve the 2025 annual report and the proposed budget for 2026.
His Highness explained that the Committee has worked on reorganizing its priorities for the coming phase, focusing on sports with Olympic potential and on developing young athletes by benefiting from Olympic Solidarity programs, in coordination and integration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.
His Highness also pointed to the continued efforts to qualify technical and administrative personnel through the programs of Omani Olympic Academy, stressing that investing in human resources is the foundation for achieving sustainable sports development.
At the conclusion of his speech, His Highness expressed his sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for its continued support, and extended his highest expressions of thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for his generous patronage and attention to the sports and youth sector.
Following the address, several items on the meeting’s agenda were discussed. The minutes of the previous General Assembly meeting, held on 23 March 2025, were reviewed and formally approved after highlighting its key decisions and recommendations.
The meeting also reviewed the annual administrative report and the committee’s activities for the year ending in 2025. The report outlined the major events and programs implemented or participated in by the committee during the past year at the local, regional, and international levels. It included Oman’s participation in several sporting events, among them the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain and the Islamic Solidarity Games in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition, the report highlighted Oman’s hosting of the Third GCC Beach Games, which witnessed strong organizational success and wide public attendance, as well as the national teams topping the overall medal standings with a total of 45 medals of various colors.
The report also addressed the inauguration of Oman Olympic Museum, the implementation of Olympic Solidarity programs supporting athletes, coaches, and personnel working in sports institutions, and the efforts of Oman Olympic Academy in qualifying sports professionals through a number of specialized programs and training courses. It further highlighted the community and awareness initiatives implemented by the Board’s supporting committees to promote sports awareness and encourage members of society to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.
As part of efforts to develop institutional work, the General Assembly approved the formation of Sports Disputes and Arbitration Committee, which will be responsible for reviewing and resolving sports-related disputes in accordance with the approved regulations.
The meeting also reviewed the final accounts for the financial year ending in 2025, which had been approved by the external auditor. The accounts were endorsed by the General Assembly, along with the appointment of an auditor for the current financial year 2026.
The General Assembly also approved the renewal of the mandate of Oman Sports Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Committee in its current composition.
The meeting concluded with a review of the committee’s proposed estimated budget for the current year and a discussion of its financial items related to the implementation of future programs and activities aimed at supporting the development of the Olympic movement and Omani sport.
