
Muscat: A sudden buildup of traffic following an earlier crash is believed to have triggered a deadly chain collision in Samail, where a heavy truck collided with vehicles ahead, leaving six people dead and 18 injured. The crash occurred on Sultan Thuwaini bin Saeed Road in the Al-Mahal area as traffic backed up toward Muscat.
Royal Oman Police Official revealed that the crash began when a large tanker truck carrying solid iron was involved in a collision. The accident occurred shortly after another traffic incident had taken place nearby, causing congestion on the road.
According to the details issued by ROP, the truck driver was suddenly confronted with the traffic buildup and collided with vehicles in front of him. The impact triggered a chain reaction involving several cars and caused the truck to veer from its lane before coming to rest between the road’s barriers.
A total of 15 vehicles were affected, with some reportedly sustaining severe damage. Six people lost their lives, while 18 others suffered injuries of varying degrees.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, represented by the Transport Safety Office, has commenced an investigation into the traffic incident that occurred on Sultan Thuwaini bin Saeed Road in the Wilayat of Samail; in order to ascertain the causes and related factors of the incident.
