#OmanPride: Indian envoy to honour Omani fisherman for heroic act

Muscat: Said Al Gamboosi, a 45-year-old Omani fisherman in Jalan who led a rescue operation to save the lives of 11 Indian sailors from a sinking cargo vessel in Omani waters, will be honoured by the Indian ambassador in Oman.
“We are indeed grateful to him. We will find an occasion to honour him for his act of humanity and friendship towards the people of India,” Indra Mani Pandey, the Indian ambassador to Oman, said.
Gamboosi and his friends led rescue operations when the Indian cargo vessel with 69 cars, food items, cooking oil and tyres landed in troubled waters in Jalan, near Sur on Saturday morning.
The vessel was heading to Yemen from Sharjah and was hit by something at around 2am.
The sailors waited until first light to check for damage However, by that time, water had started gushing into the vessel.
They dropped the attempt to salvage the vessel and jumped into the water wearing life jackets.
