Salalah: The Al Gharif tourism project, implemented and managed by a number of Omani entrepreneurs with support from Dhofar Municipality, represents a qualitative addition to the tourism sector in Dhofar Governorate by reviving the traditional farm experience in Salalah and presenting it with an innovative, modern vision.
The project, located on an area of 25,000 square metres on one of Salalah's farms, combines natural beauty with a sense of hospitality, in an environment that evokes local agricultural heritage and presents it in a modern style that aligns with the requirements of sustainable tourism.
The project aims to redefine the concept of agricultural tourism through an integrated experience centred around a water channel (the Saqiya), surrounded by walkways and public seating areas, along with service and entertainment facilities including four main cafes and kiosks serving food, beverages, and tropical fruits.
The project also includes a designated area for year-round events, tailored to the Dhofar Governorate's tourist seasons, a walkway for agricultural experiments among banana trees, and a horse stable that enhances the environmental character of the area.
Ahmed bin Aqeel Muqbil, one of the founding partners, explained that the "Al Garif" project seeks to transform the traditional farm into an integrated tourist destination that offers visitors an authentic experience blended with the aesthetics of the local nature.
He emphasised that the project represents a first step toward broader development phases in the future.
He added that the project's name derives from the word "Al-Gharif," which in the local dialect means fertile agricultural land, reflecting the authenticity of the place and its connection to the Dhofari agricultural environment.
The design of its logo was inspired by natural elements, with lines inspired by palm fronds, embodying harmony with the surrounding environment.
The founding partners plan to launch the second phase of the project, which will include an adventure area, a natural nursery, a honey house, and a natural pool.
This will enhance the diversity of tourist attractions and consolidate Al Gharif's position as a premium tourist destination in Salalah.-
