The urgency to get medical help stems from news about several Asian countries reeling under the impact of dengue, malaria, typhoid fever, hepatitis A and food-borne illnesses.
“It is always better to go for a check-up if people are experiencing high fever, loose motion or vomiting tendencies,” said Dr Pradeep Maheshwari, specialist in Internal Medicine at the Atlas Hospital, Ruwi.
He added that this should be done as soon as possible to prevent the spread of diseases in Sultanate. “This is especially important for those, who have been to India, where a large number of dengue and malaria cases have been reported.”
Residents of the Sultanate can be vulnerable to infectious diseases when travelling as they are generally not present in the Sultanate. “This is simply because we don’t have these diseases here,” another doctor at a private hospital said.
The elderly and the young have been especially cautioned as they are much more vulnerable to such attacks.
“The best thing to do this season is to practice good hygiene and wash your hands often as a good hand wash will kill the virus,” doctors said.
