Muscat bourse continues its downward trend

Muscat: Muscat shares continued its negative trend to close at 5,849.42 points, a loss of 0.42 per cent. The MSM Sharia Index declined by 0.19 per cent to close at 895.39 points. Oman & Emirates Holding was the most active stock in terms of volume while Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) led turnover-wise. Tuesday’s only gainer was Oman Flour Mills, up by 0.65 per cent, while Al Jazeera Steel was the top loser, down by 6.92 per cent.
As many as 522 trades were executed on Tuesday, generating turnover of OMR1.92 million with 8.47 million shares changing hands. Out of 38 traded securities, two advanced, 17 declined and 19 remained unchanged. GCC and Arab investors were net buyers for OMR101,000 while Omani investors were net sellers for OMR64,000 followed by foreign investors for OMR37,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index retreated 0.39 per cent to close at 7,496.69 points. Ominvest, Al Sharqia Investments, Global Financial Investment, Al Batinah Development and Bank Muscat declined by 1.77 per cent, 1.48 per cent, 1.16 per cent, 1.08 per cent and 1.01 per cent, respectively.
Industrial Index closed at 7,587.42 points, down by 0.47 per cent. Oman Flour Mills, up by 0.65 per cent was the only equity gainer. Al Jazeera Steel and Al Hassan Engineeering declined by 6.92 per cent and 1.33 per cent, respectively.
Services Index ended at 3,167.68 points, down by 0.38 per cent. Al Jazeera Services, Sohar Power, Ooredoo, Phoenix Power and OIFC declined by 2.56 per cent, 2.50 per cent, 1.62 per cent, 1.33 per cent and 1.01 per cent, respectively.
