Schools in Duqm record significant rise in students

Muscat : The Special Economic Zone at Duqm has recorded a growth in the number of students studying in the general and basic education stage, coinciding with the increase in the volume of investments in the zone and the transfer of many Omani and foreign families to settle in Duqm after the availability of a number of services and facilities that encourage workers to settle there.

The Special Economic Zone at Duqm has witnessed an increase in the number of students in public and private schools in the last five years, rising in the academic year 2023/2024 to more than 1,740 male and female students, compared to 1,181 male and female students in the academic year 2018/2019, recording a growth of 47.3 percent, coinciding with the opening of Al Saad International School in 2021.

Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, Acting CEO of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, said that the zone is looking forward to more investments in the education sector, reflecting the growth in the projects being implemented.

Duqm has 8 schools, 6 government and 2 private sector, namely Al Saad International School and the Indian School in Duqm, in addition to a number of kindergartens that receive students in the pre-school stage.

The total number of male and female students studying at Al Saad International School in Duqm in the last academic year amounted to more than 200 male and female students from more than 22 different nationalities, while the total number of students studying at the Indian School is 52 male and female students from 5 different nationalities.

The establishment of the Indian School which is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India, came to keep pace with the growth in the number of families residing in Duqm from the Indian community and other communities, and seeks to provide a modern and integrated educational environment from kindergarten to primary school, with plans to expand in the future to include higher educational levels.
