Muscat: Indian expatriates across Oman celebrated India’s 77th Republic Day with grandeur and patriotic fervour on Monday, January 26, 2026.
The day saw widespread observances at the Indian Embassy in Muscat and at Indian schools across the Sultanate, drawing a huge crowd.
At the Embassy of India in Muscat, the celebrations began with a Flag Unfurling Ceremony attended by members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India. The Chargé d’Affaires of India to Oman, Tavishi Behal Pandey, paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi before unfurling the national flag, followed by the National Anthem.
Pandey read excerpts from the President of India’s Republic Day address, highlighting the country’s constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. The address also noted the growing participation of women, digital governance initiatives, strengthening of national security, and the importance of cultural heritage in nation-building.
The Embassy additionally celebrated the achievement of the Indian Navy, as INSV Kaundinya completed its maiden voyage from Porbandar to Muscat, with Commanders Y. Hemant Kumar and Vikas Sheoran in attendance. Patriotic songs by students of Indian School Muscat, including a mass rendition of India’s National Song Vande Mataram in its 150th year, brought the Embassy celebrations to a close.
