Muscat: Oman's sporting delegation represented by athletics national team and swimming team will arrive to the Olympic Village in Paris on Thursday to commence their participation at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games which will begin on Friday and will run until August 11. The national shooting team arrived earlier on Wednesday as They are underway in a preparatory camp ahead of the shooting competitions began with the completion of the opening ceremony. The administrative team headed by Ali al Busaifi, Oman's Chef de Mission, completed all the necessary arrangement and requirements for the entry of the athletes and officials of the national teams into the Olympic Village.
Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) and head of the Oman’s delegation to 2024 Paris Olympic Games affirmed that this participation continues the legacy of previous Olympic involvements that began since the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. He highlighted the significance of this involvement in reinforcing Oman's sports presence and showcasing the country's development and prosperity in sports. He urged the athletes to represent Oman honorably and achieve positive results in line with the continuous progress of Oman's sports.
Al Zubair congratulated all the athletes who will have the honor of representing Oman at the Paris Olympics, including sprinters Ali al Balushi and Mazoon al Alawi (athletics), shooter Said al Khatri (shooting), and swimmer Issa Al Adawi (aquatics). He praised the significant efforts made by the athletes and their coaching teams and appreciated the continuous and diligent follow-up by the Chairman of the Sports associations involved in all the preparatory and qualifying programs. He hopes the athletes will give their best to achieve the desired and honorable results, representing Oman in the best possible way at this prestigious Olympic event.
The Chief of OOC pointed out that the Olympic Games are among the most essential sporting events where athletes aspire to participate and achieve the best records and personal milestones. He stated that these games provide an ideal environment to benefit from experiences and interact with the World-Ranking athletes from around the world, competing in the best facilities and sports infrastructures prepared according to the highest international standards. He looked forward to the athletes making the most of this unique Olympic participation and gaining maximum technical benefits, while emphasizing the need to continue their efforts and maintain their performance to reach the podium in various sports events.
Al Zubair expressed his appreciation for the government support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, led by His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tariq al Said. He affirmed that this support will contribute to elevating the Omani sports scene to broader horizons and ensuring the Oman Olympic Committee continues providing the necessary support to the national teams to present the best possible performances and raise the flag of Oman high in international forums.
Al Zubair concluded his statement by expressing his highest loyalty and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq for his generous patronage and continuous support for the sports and youth sectors in Oman. He prayed for His Majesty's health, well-being, and long life.
Taha al Kishry Arrives in Paris
Taha Suleiman al Kishry, Secretary General of OOC and member of the official delegation for the Sultanate of Oman at Paris Olympics, arrived in Paris late on Tuesday. Upon his arrival, Al Kishry reviewed the final preparations before the arrival of the athletes and officials of the national teams. He confirmed that the administrative delegation will do their best to complete all preparations for the arrival of the athletes, technical and administrative staff. He commented on the significant efforts and continuous cooperation from His Excellency the Omani Ambassador to France and the members of the Omani Embassy in Paris with the Oman Olympic Committee over the couples months ago to ensure effective participation in this major sports event. He expressed his gratitude for their roles and their constant communication with the sports delegation during their stay in France for the Olympics.
Al Kishry confirmed that the official opening ceremony of the Olympics which will take place on Friday at the Seine River in Paris will feature attendance of several Omani officials including HE Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth for Sports and Youth, HE Ambassador Ahmed bin Mohammed al Oraimi, Oman's Ambassador to France, Sheikh Khalid Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of OOC and head of the Omani delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympics, HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said, Vice Chairman of OOC , and some board members of OOC and the officials at Oman's Embassy in France.
The Secretary-General of OOC delivered his best wishes to all the athletes and representatives of the national teams to register honorable participation highlighting that all members of the administrative delegation in Paris are there to support the Omani athletes and stand by them to honor Oman’s participation in This significant Olympic event.
Olympic Village welcome Oman's national teams
The Olympic Village in Paris will host the representatives of the national teams participating in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics on Thursday. The official opening ceremony of the Olympics will take place on Friday at the Seine River in Paris. Ali bin Salem Al Busafi, Oman's Chef De Mission, praised the significant cooperation from the organizers of the Paris Olympics in completing all bookings and requirements well in advance of the arrival of Omani sports delegation members. Al Busafi appreciated the commitment of the national team representatives in providing all necessary data and information to complete various procedures related to accommodation, transportation, participation in the official opening ceremony, and other aspects. He wished all the national team members to follow all the systems and procedures in place to ensure their safety within the Olympic Village and present the honorable image. Al Busafi held several meetings on Wednesday with the organizers from various departments to finalize all matters related to securing and receiving the national team representatives and ensuring their smooth entry into the Olympic Village.
Shooter Said gears up
Shooter Said al Khatri from the national shooting team will begin the first official participation of the Oman's national team. Al Khatri will compete in his Olympic debut in the preliminary qualifications for the Men's Trap shooting event which will be held on Monday and Tuesday at the Chateauroux Shooting Center. Shooters will be divided into several groups with the top performers advancing to the finals to compete for Olympic medals.
The second participation by Omani athletes will be through swimmer Issa Al Adawi, who will participate in his second consecutive Olympics after competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He will compete in the 100-meter freestyle event on Tuesday at the Paris Aquatics Center. Sprinter Mazoon al Alawi, participating in her third Olympics after competing in the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, will take part in the 100-meter race event on August 2 at Stade de France. Sprinter Ali al Balushi will make his Olympic debut on August 3 in the same event at the same venue.
Omani athletes will aim to achieve a successful Olympic participation showcasing the advanced level of Oman's sports. They also work hard to break personal, national and regional records besides honoring Oman's participation in this prominent international sports event.
